  • As of 1 p.m. April 23, 2019 more than 130 asylum seekers had already been dropped off in Las Cruces today. Another 25 were expected by 2 p.m. today. Officials at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) were expecting a busy day of asylum seekers being brought to Las Cruces.
  • Bed capacity for asylum seekers coming to Las Cruces is 193.
  • Progress has been made to streamline the volunteer process in Las Cruces, and EOC officials are optimistic an improved framework for scheduling volunteers could soon be established.
  • EOC officials continue to emphasize situational awareness for personnel and volunteers involved with asylum seekers. However, there haven’t been any issues reported.
  • As of Friday, April 26, 2019, the Salvation Army will no longer be providing meals for asylum seekers. People or nongovernmental organizations will need to be found to provide that service outside of the Gospel Rescue Mission and Community of Hope.
