Apartment Fire Under Investigation 2019

The Las Cruces Fire Department is investigating Wednesday morning’s fire in a vacant, unsecured apartment at 813 Parkview Drive.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, to a fire reported to be in a first-floor apartment at the complex. Firefighters arrived within four minutes of dispatch and flames were suppressed within three minutes. No injuries were reported.

Investigators believe the fire originated in a closet and there was relatively minor fire damage to the adjoining hallway. There was smoke damage throughout the apartment. There did not appear to be any fire-related damage to any of the other apartments in the fourplex.

Fire investigators believe the apartment has been vacant of tenants for some time, though there was evidence of squatters possibly occupying the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
