Tree Steward Upcoming Training 2019

The recruitment process is now underway for the 2019 class of volunteer Tree Stewards. This Las Cruces Parks and Recreation program is dedicated to the recruitment and training of community volunteers to care for trees in public spaces and on their own property.

Training includes 32 hours of hands-on classes will be held 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays, Feb. 27 to April 17, at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center Auditorium, 304 Bell Ave. Classes are taught by experienced tree experts. In exchange for the training, Tree Stewards are asked to volunteer 40 hours of their time conducting such activities as planting trees, aiding in educational efforts like Arbor Day, and assisting in the maintenance of trees in Las Cruces parks.

Join the ranks of Tree Stewards, who since 2012, have made the commitment to plant, grow, maintain, and promote our community forest.

A program application and a more detailed description of the classes may be found at the City’s Tree Steward website: or at the Tree Steward Facebook page:
