SWAT Callout Results in Arrest of Battery Suspect 2019
A Las Cruces man suspected of strangling his wife and punching his father during a Saturday morning incident was arrested early Monday after an hours-long SWAT callout.
Jesus Insurriaga Garcia, 25, of the 100 block of Cinnabar Lane, is charged with a third-degree felony count of aggravated battery against a household member and a misdemeanor count of battery against a household member. He’s also charged with two counts of violating terms of his parole and one count of violating terms of his probation.
Shortly before 4 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of a domestic incident at the home Garcia and his wife of one month share with his parents. Investigators learned Garcia woke his wife by pulling her hair. He then accused her of infidelity, placed both hands around her neck and attempted to strangle her.
Garcia is then accused of throwing his wife to the floor and kicking her abdomen several times. Investigators believe Garcia picked her up, threw her on the bed and again tried to strangle her. While doing so, his wife struck the wall several times in an attempt at waking Garcia’s parents.
Investigators learned Garcia’s parents awoke and went to the young couple’s bedroom. Garcia’s mother indicated she slapped her son and tried to break them apart. Garcia allegedly left the bedroom, followed his father to another room and punched him at least once.
Garcia fled the home in is mother’s vehicle which was later found abandoned on Highway 28 by a Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Inside the car, officers located Garcia’s ankle monitor that he was required to wear as a condition of parole.
A warrant was issued for Garcia’s arrest. He was located Sunday evening at a home on the 2300 block of Lester Avenue. He refused to exit the home and LCPD’s SWAT team was activated. After about two hours, Garcia was taken into custody early Monday morning and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
