Fire Injures Man, Damages Apartment on East Lucero Avenue
A Las Cruces man was transported to a local hospital with potential life-threatening injuries after a fire damaged his apartment early Friday morning.
About 2:40 a.m. Friday, March 8, Las Cruces police and firefighters were dispatched to the fire at an apartment at 317 E. Lucero Ave. The 35-year-old man who resides in the center of three small apartments was located by police outside of the residence and suffering from unknown injuries. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center with injuries that are potentially life-threatening.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in the center apartment and cleared the two adjacent units. No other injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called to help other tenants in the small apartment complex.
The center apartment sustained heavy damage as a result of the fire, and the two adjacent units were damaged by smoke and water. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
