Spring Break Teen Mural Camp 2019

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will host a Spring Break Mural Camp for teens age 13 -17. Camp will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 25 through 29, at the Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E Hadley Ave.

Instruction will be provided by guest artist Sean Carpentier from Taos, NM and local artist Shaunna Foster. Teens will learn about mural design, wall preparation, and mural implementation. They will also be encouraged to develop ideas into strong visual compositions using various traditional and modern media in conjunction with different painting techniques and styles. Murals enhance property values, inspire and energize, encourage artistic opportunities, decrease vandalism, beautify, and provide for a more articulate use of the visual language while fostering civic pride. Artistic ability or knowledge is not a prerequisite for a student to attend, but desire to participate and learn are.

The camp is free, and space is limited to the first ten participants. Lunch will not be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and snacks.

Registration can now be conducted online at under the section Activities & Programs, or in person at the following locations during regular business hours:
