Park Playground Surface Repairs 2019
The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department will be working with a contractor to make safety upgrades to several playgrounds throughout the city. The parks with playgrounds to receive the upgrades include Sagecrest Park, Sunrise Terrace Park, Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center Park, East Mesa Recreation Center Park, and Via Encantada Park. At each playground, the old rubber safety surfacing will be removed and replaced with new rubber safety surfacing. Repairs and upgrades to the underlying concrete base material will also be made, as needed. The surfacing is IPEMA-certified, ADA-compliant, and provides fall attenuation to aid in protecting children as they play on the equipment.
The safety surfacing is composed of two layers. The first layer consists of 100% post-consumer recycled styrene butadiene rubber and polyurethane. The top layer consists of recycled ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber and polyurethane. The top layer is colored. The new rubber safety surfacing material is warrantied for 7 years. The cost for this work is estimated to be $58,000.
The upgrade work will start on Monday, March 11. The entire project is anticipated to take 45 days to complete. As each playground safety surfacing upgrade is completed, inspected, and accepted, it will be re-opened for use by the public. The cooperation of the public is requested for the duration of the project. Please do not breach the construction fencing and do not play on the equipment or in the vicinity until the fencing is removed and the playground is re-opened for public enjoyment.
